Successful degradation ceremony

As Mark Twain has once said: ”We are the only animals who blush". We are the only animals that have shame, or at least we should. The behavioral paradigm of shame is found in the withdrawal and covering of their portion of the body that socially defines ones public appearance- prominently, the genitals and the face.  Shame is an excellent reason to avoid anything that could connect us to guilt.

Whether we wanted or not, there are people who are willing to do anything to create shame on us, with an intent of maximal repercussions and maximum possible amount of shame. Public shaming campaigns are the modern ways for ritual destruction of the person anounced. A moral indignation is its effect towards the chosen sinner of the moment. This is  ”death of the self” , the destruction of the person and the person’s identity verbally, this is often viciously perpetrated through times by the media.

In this game we hardly ever get the surprise factor on our side due to natural reasons but what we can have is play the card of the second turn.  If we act with sincerity and integrity when facing shaming campaigns we will still be well grounded and firm in our heart.  Our conscience will guide us even in the hardest and most insane moments.  We should remember that shaming is only a losers way to try to control something someone effectively has not in their control.

One of the places where this type of action is an everyday routine are prisons where ”newbies” enter first time. The ”total degradation ceremony” consists of complete stripping naked of he inmate in front of a large group of officers and guards, men and women. Inside a small phone booth sized cage the inmate is forced to bend over and show the cavities of ones body due to security reasons.  If necessary a doctor is brought there to ostensively search the inmate with a latex glove.

The entire admission ritual is consciously and deliberately intended to break and create instant submissions in new inmates. Some officers, and some citizens find it degrading and do not allow it happen on their turn.  Although all this is just done to show the complete and absolute power of an institution over the individual alone in front of it.  The symbolism is clear and simple, it is a ritual of destruction of someones personality and manhood.

In the media, this an attempt of digital rape. Being stripped naked and beaten by half truths and hearsay in the tabloids against ones will seeks only to achieve the same success as in the small cold cage. Once a normal citizen sees by their own eyes which type of harm this type of way of acting causes, they would understand better the motives of extremely violent crimes in prisons.  It is possible that there are no better ways of socializing men to become their most violent version of themselves, both inside and outside of prison.

Through shaming and humiliating we hardly ever get to grasp the full potential of a person. When we understand what some acts and rituals symbolize we get a blink of a broader view of something we once through simple and unilaterral. They have had their meaning before our existence, but we can decide how and in which way we will allow them to create effect in us since we have no control in other peoples emotions and opinions.

And since there is no such thing as bad publicity but only publicity not well used. What Im trying to say here is that if we can observe the phenomenon we can understand better and see clearer our next move and position.
