The question I hear most often is about the ten years I “lost” in prison. People see it as wasted time, but that’s a negative way of looking at life. Before I was sentenced to 27 years in a maximum-security penitentiary, I made a decision: one way or another, I would get out and I would get out better than I went in. Prison gave me something rare: time, without all the noise and distractions modern society forces us to consume. It was me, and the silence of a solitary cell.

Prison strips more than freedom; it dehumanizes. To survive, one must be a hero to oneself, for in a system of illusion, true freedom is ear.

When I had to go to prison there was a very short period when I thought it would wreck me completely. But after a short time I got into meditation because I soon realized that all I had now was time for myself in the solitude of my stinky and humid rotten and infested solitary cell. Life or God gave me the biggest present I could have ever dreamed of. I had to approach this opportunity with absolute dedication to make myself better in every way possible.

Society has its laws and institutions that it applies to those who need correction and punishment for stepping out of the line. This is completely comprehensible and I fully agree with it. Everything that we do, every action, either good or bad, has consequences, reactions and repercussions that follow, unfailingly. But what happens after we have paid our debt to the society?

During my childhood spent in a variety of sports training and competing in many countries there were many high level trainers who had an excellent approach to many venues and areas of training. Although not one approached the psychological side of the whole topic. Later on after seeing some of my best friends making into fame and money I saw how it affected them, which were basically the same effects that I was dwelling in my criminal life.
